When I look at this photo i see a life-like and frozen doll which is pure and pale but creepy because of the dark clothes and makeup. The fact the she is in a pinky girly room filled with dolls and stuffed animals makes her feel very out of place, and makes the image very jarring. It reminds me of a horror film and I almost expect the doll to come to life and come at me with a knife. So not only am I unsettled I am also wary and afraid. When I look away the pink tinge really sticks with me.
This picture grabs my attention through the eclectic display of dolls. This girl is troubled if this is her room. It reads narratively for me that way. She has stalled in her maturation, her life is in disrepair. The photo reads a bit like Sia's music video Chandelier. Space is used in such a way that I feel like the room is a chamber in her mind. The photo has a psychological strength to it.
